To celebrate OUR 2 year anniversary with Rydges Hotel, WE organized the Otra Vista Social Club,
a Silent Dance Party IN ASSOCIATION with Deaf Interpreting NZ.
“After 2 years of success with our “Dans le Noir? dining in the dark” restaurant, we wanted to bring some fresh air through a new concept; think outside of the box and involve the Deaf community of New Zealand with a fun disco night.”the Dans le noir team.
The Otra Vista Social Concept concept started three years ago in our Dans le Noir? restaurants in London and Barcelona. A very first in New Zealand, we decided to give it a go with Deaf Interpreting NZ. And what was the best place to oragnize it? Rydges Hotel has the best view in town from its rooftop terrace!
During the night, guests could pick-up a headset and were directed to our Silent Dance Floor to dance to music played by Limelight DJ & Entertainment. Our DJ was mixing 2 different playlists and guests could choose their own channel visible through a light on their headset. Blue or Red? As verbal communication was made impossible, it was the only way for their friends to know which music they were listenning to. And this is where our Deaf guides were absolutely necessary : they taught all of us some basics of sign language!
Food and drinks were also available at our Silent Bar and had to be ordered in sign language!
But how would you say beer, soft drink, red wine, dumplings, or shrimp?
Our Deaf guides were amazing volunteers and a part of the funds collected during this night will be donated to Deaf Interpreting NZ to provide training for Deaf people to become Deaf Interpreters.
A huge thanks to everyone who made this night possible.
